Are you ready to win in the financial services market with the IBM Watson Industry Platform?

I just returned from IBM PartnerWorld Leadership Conference 2017 in Las Vegas, where I had the opportunity to talk about this year’s strategy to win the race against our competitors in the financial services industry. At the event, John Kelly, senior vice president, cognitive solutions and research at IBM, used this graphic to illustrate our company’s strategy for transforming IBM.


All our solutions will be cognitive, our platform will be cloud and our focus will be on industries. Together with our partners, we can co-create industry platforms and ecosystems that enable disruptive business models and the optimization of key work processes.

The financial services industry is incredibly resilient, but our financial services clients are operating in an increasingly complex and expensive regulatory environment, while their customers demand a deeper understanding of their changing needs. We can lead the transformation of financial services from risk and compliance to mortgage, claims processing, building trust and transparency, and even making financial systems and markets stronger than ever. We selected the financial services industry as our priority industry because the disruption of digital technology in banking cannot be overlooked, and IBM already has the market share of the world’s largest banks.

How can you begin the transformation to grow your business with our IBM Watson Financial Services Solutions (FSS) Platform? Here are four ways:

One: Focus on the financial services market-share growth through core revitalization. Execute Core to Cloud and radical cost transformation value plays. Grow your analytics core by differentiating through cognitive approaches, and increase cloud penetration on FSS accounts. Leverage the Client Insight for Banking Lite sales play to target commercial banks with a cloud solution.

Two: Execute a strategic sales play developed to help you reach midmarket customers who need to automate the process of administering, calculating, reporting and analyzing incentive compensation programs with IBM Incentive Compensation Management Lite. You are provided with a reduced cost-of-entry, software-as-a-service (SaaS) offering to target customers with simple compensation programs and smaller-sized transaction volumes.

Three: Build Watson cognitive apps through the IBM Bluemix platform as your entry point for SaaS opportunities to optimize processes and operations, augment and scale expertise, enable innovation and discovery, and personalize experiences. Four: Sell your intellectual property and services with IBM to co-create IBM Watson industry platforms. Our platforms require minimal tailoring, and they can be delivered through the cloud—if the client desires—and ready for business.
