IBM Business Partner Blueit Group (b.digital) named Watson Build Challenge Global Champion!
As I posted last week, we have been anticipating the Watson Build Challenge Grand Finale for months now. And I can tell you without a doubt that the Business Partners were ready to compete. It was a nail-biter to the very end with so many great solutions competing for the recognition. But in the end, our panel of 6 judges comprised of 3 IBM Executives and 2 IBM Client firm representatives and an Industry Analyst could pick only one Global Champion. It is now my sincere pleasure to officially congratulate Blueit Group/b.digital on being named our official Watson Build Challenge Global Champion!
It’s also my pleasure to share some background about our Watson Build global champion for those of you who aren’t familiar with the firm or the amazing work they’ve done. To start with, b.digital is a new venture of our Italy-based IBM Business Partner Blueit Group (@blueit_news), an IT Outsourcer focused on supporting the Italian market through its digital transformation journey. The solution that made them global champion is called bioBOTGuard, which facilitates “precision farming” by improving both monitoring activities and field operations to help agronomists and farmers do their complicated and exacting work more efficiently and cost-effectively. Uniquely, this prototype solution uses drone technology and cognitive visual recognition through Watson APIs, as the company explained during the event.
Now, b.digital of course moves on to the pivotal next step, and that is getting bioBOTGuard ready to go to market and tackle the real-world challenges that inspired it. In fact, I’d say that was a common theme of all the solutions our regional champions presented in New York—solving complex challenges by harnessing new technologies to help the world become a better place for all of us. Stay tuned, as you will be seeing more from b.digital and our Watson Build Challenge regional champions shortly.
Another great example of that theme is the Business Partners I met with who participated in the challenge and didn’t make it to the final round—but who came to the event in New York anyway. They came because they’re deeply involved in this type of solution development, and from what I was hearing, they’re looking forward to taking it further and competing again next year. The cross-pollination of ideas was certainly a factor too, as I saw a lot of conversations between visiting Business Partners and the seven geography champions, and heard great feedback all day. In a sense, it’s like there’s opportunity for everyone, because these solutions are so new that there haven’t been any competing apps in the marketplace. So it certainly makes sense for our Business Partners to collaborate in order to more easily take some of these prospective solutions across different geos and into action.
And once more, a big thanks to all of the IBM Business Partners who joined the Watson Build Challenge this year. You continue to inspire all of us to think about new ways to solve the challenges we face every day. As always, you can let me know what you think by using the comments feature below.
